Ok, I know there's a big price difference here, but let's pretend there wasn't. Keep in mind that I'm an indoor/outdoor/studio fashion/glamour photographer. My current lenses are listed in my sig. I'm curious if you think it'd be a better bet to invest in an 85mm prime or extend my zoom ability to go from 24-200L (split between two lenses of course).

Thanks in advance

LOL...I appreciate the peer pressure, but I've already decided that since I'm going to stay away from low light shots at this particular focal length range, the f/4L is more than enough for me...esp if I end up in a studio more than outdoors.

Not even looking at the price,

85 1.8. It's a prime. You can move with your feet, especially for something that generally is a controlled situation. I see no reason for the 70-200 L even though they are prime like zooms.

I love my 85 1.8. You know I've said that about 10 times today. It's a wonderful lens. You will be shocked you haven't gotten it before this purchase. I promise.

Get the 85. Of all my lenses, my 85 would be the last one I would sell. Pin sharp and smooth bokeh!

Having only one of the two you are asking about, I still would maybe pick the 85, I love it. The "pro" shop I buy most of my gear from didnt recommend it all that much because of the distance needed to use it, hence the no very close up shots, but I find that for general purposes it is a very good lens.

Getting out of photography for now...

I've been torn between these two as well......and the new 70-300mm IS.

Seems like barely a quality difference and you gain 300mm and IS for a little less than the L.

Indoors and outdoors, he doesn't need 300mm.

Hey Greg, get the 120-300 already; don't be such a tease. And don't post another thread until you've got it in your hands! :D

I'm actually waiting on that seller(from this board) to let me know when he's ready to sell. Although since I'm a college student and it does cost a lot, I'm in no rush. :p
