"Sludge and grime" might be more indicative of abuse than some scratches. The thing could have been dropped in the mud, for all you know.

Lol...I *HATE* this kind of "reasoning."

That's like saying "Who can lift more? A 6 year old or a 250-pound body builder?"...and answering with a "The 6 year old, because the body builder could have been hit by a bus and could be in a body cast unable to lift so much as a straw to eat his dinner through."

Just plain silly...IN GENERAL, a camera that's been dinged up, scratched up, etc is an indication that it's had a rough life.

I've got better things to bicker over such as whether it's going to be haddock or cod for tea.. :)

In my opinion if the camera has been dropped or abused and has suffered mechanically from that and you buy a new part to cover it up then that is dishonest.

If on the other hand the body had a few scratches from wear and tear but is in full working order and you just prettied it up, even buying a new body case then that is fine. Any buyer with an idea will be taking note of shutter count, the way the camera works and the photos it takes.

That aside, the rubber of my camera when I bought it had the white sweat marks in the grain of the rubber grip. A damp microfibre cloth with a drop of washing up liquid cleaned it up a treat.
