Say No To Vertical Videos!!

Has anyone else been seeing the Vertical Video Syndrome creeping into photography?

Those guys are awesome. I'll have to show my wife that, I've caught her trying to make vertical videos..

The very first time I played around with video I shot it vertically. As a still photographer, flipping the camera vertical to match the composition was simply natural.

Then I downloaded the video to check it out. I was thinking "Hmmmm.....how do I rotate this so I can see it?" That's when I realized that video is not intended to be shot in various orientations.

This was already posted by someone else a couple of months ago but still a great video.

Nothing wrong with vertical video, if it's intended to be viewed on a handheld screen (which covers most videos recorded with a cell phone).

This is an old way of thinking. Our photo programs automatically rotate photos we take vertically based on a setting in our camera. The same should go for video. This is a simple thing that needs to get straightened out. We are now watching videos on handheld easily rotatable devices so there's no reason that videos should not be recorded vertically!
