May end up being a pretty short thread but I looked through the sample photo thread and there was very little product photography. I am thinking about getting this lens to get started in some product photography. I'm thinking it is wide enough to do larger stuff and I can use a TC if necessary for smaller items. So, if you have any product photography shot with this lens, with or without a TC, please post up so I can get an idea if this will meet my needs. Please specify the camera it was used on as well. I'm planning to use my 5D2. Thanks.

Bob

Lens movements are great to have for any product photography.

Are you going to be paid? Or just starting out?

Just getting started. Probably spend a year shooting household items before deciding to persue any work.

I know the 90 is very popular. It seems that most find it to be quite a bit sharper than the 45 but I think it would be too long for things like furniture or vehicles.

Wow, nothing??

I know there are very few product photographers on this board but I thought I might get something. I've also been wondering about the Ts-e 24L II. It has the advantage of being able to rotate the movements independent of each other. Anyone ever try a 2x converter on one? How does that affect the projected image circle on a T-S lens?

I did a few shots of guitars and similar music gear. I can maybe dig them out later, have to leave now.

The TS-E 45mm is pretty good at it because of almost complete absence of CA. For smaller products the minimum focus distance can be a problem. Using tilt is generally not a good idea since it confuse the viewer but shift can be very useful to give it more pleasant proportions.

I don't like to use longer lenses for item photography because the out of focus "background" gets stretched too much, that means parts of the product get too blurry.

I can confirm that it takes Canon's extenders but I don't recall keeping photos done that way.

My imagine composition sucks. I need a heavier lens.

The more research I do, the more something like this seems to make sense.

Bob, I'd be curious to know myself. I do a bit of product photography (mainly for my own design work) but haven't tried a tilt-shift lens yet. I rented a the 90mm TS-E once and while it was fun, I felt like it was lacking the sharpness and micro contrast of the newer lenses (i.e. my 100L). Up till now I've been fine just compositing images to get full depth of field, but it does get annoying.
