Post like this one are not good for me to read. It creates expensive cravings.

My friend came over to demo a $30 accessory .... on his new 5D3.
It's payback time buddy.

The built-in level for use with tilt-shift lenses is probably my top item. I also absolutely love hitting one button to zoom to 100. Hit it again and I'm back. Stupid thing, but in the course of a shoot, how many times do you chimp?

It's almost the perfect camera.

AF is killer, but Silent Mode would probably be my favorite feature.

bw! I love the Silent Mode! Besides all the improvements over 5D2, Silent Mode was trigger point for me to get the 5D3. :D

Can I come live with you? That's my wife said I would have to do if I did..... Where's that guy who posted his wife said he could upgrade. I need her to talk to mine.

Now (in a serious voice), what is your favorite 5D MkIII feature?

Sure, I can put you to work. Favorites so far are:

1. Autofocus
2. Auto ISO

Silent shutter!!! OMG I have been using it religiously. I feel like a ninja in the night! People don't even know when I'm shooting!

Also....I found that my 50 1.2 was great, it just needed the focusing from the 5d3 to actually work properly. I could never focus in low light and I could only focus at the center focusing point. It also locks the focus in much faster and almost 100% of the time. Before it would be almost 50% miss!

From last night

I can only imagine how I'll feel upgrading from a 50D :p

That's exactly what I did. I feel guilty thinking so badly of my 50D now. It was actually a great camera, but this mark iii is so far out in a different league.

The ONLY thing I might miss is the crop factor for sports, but I'm OK with cropping a bit more. Actually, I think the 5D miii would be OK with night games under stadium lighting with the 70-200 f/2.8 plus 1.4x converter. I would never try that with the 50D, but I think I could go way up on ISO with this baby and do just fine. Of course, after buying the 5D and two lenses (17-40 and 24-105), I don't think I can afford the converter.

My gear:
Canon 5D mk III, 7D | Canon 70-200 mm f2.8L IS, 100-400 mm f4.5-5.6L, 24-105 mm f4L, 16-35 mm f4LIS, 50 mm f1.4, 100 mm f2.8L IS macro, | Canon 580 EX II Flash

Oh yes, I love my MkIII it beats my MkII nicely. Both are awesome. BUT -

I sure wish it didn't cost quite so much. I would be much prouder of it if it cost $500 less. I feel "taken", or at least "abused". The upgrades are huge, but so were the 5D2 upgrades huge over the 5D classic. And look at what you can buy the Nikon D800 for. The 5D3 is overpriced.

And, it needs cleaner high ISO. Yep, it's an improvement, but they will never make it good enough - at least for a long time. when I can shoot by moonlight with zero noise, I will finally be satisfied. (this in response to the original posters comment "I couldn't ask for more")

Bargain until something goes wrong, and you need Canon to repair it, and they won't touch it....

But they will. They just won't give you warranty service. And usually electronics either go wrong within the first few days (within return period) or after a long while (out of warranty anyway).

I pre ordered one the day it was released then had to sell it a couple of months ago. I recently bought it back for 2800.00 from Adorama. Bottom line is if I had to pay regular price all over again, I wouldn't hesitate. 5D III is worth every penny.

Mike, I really don't understand why you feel taken or abused.

By your own comments in this and other posts you feel it is a fantastic camera and was a huge upgrade over previous gear. Prices always come down eventually (or features go up) and this is what happens when you adopt early in the cycle. Nikon has some great features - and issues - just as Canon has. You make your choices. Much of the better equipment in both lines now is SO good that it really comes down to the abilities and "eye" of the photographer. These costs are still less painful than those in the days of medium format film equipment with the attendant processing. The cost of new Hasselblad lenses was astronomical.

Enjoy what you have, create, and have a happy holiday! :D

Not necessarily true, there has been at least one case where Canon has refused repair, even at the owner's expense, posted here on the boards. Of course, the first telltale sign was the mismatched serial numbers that led to the discovery that the camera was grey market, but Canon seems to have gotten more strict over the past year or so anyways, so I would not assume anything.
