Hey all. Does anyone know if or where an alternate location for a serial number. The serial number on the bottom of the body has become unreadable due to having a grip on it and age. Looking to send it in for a sensor replacement. Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

The serial numbers for 5d classics start with 0,1,2 or 3.
I cant check exif on my ipad, but double check the number above.

There used to be a lot of info about Canon S/N's, even at one time some people had white (or silver) printing on a black label and some had black printing on a silver label. Some people felt other labels were an indicator of a gray market camera. Since it is critical to know the correct S/N for the CSP program, Canon Europe published a good document showing where the S/N can be found and what the label should look like. One of the most reliable pieces of info is the EXIF information, which in this case supports 420203453 by examining previous posts by the OP.

The document if anyone wants it is at http://cpn.canon-europe.com …system/cps_barcode_v2.pdf (external link). Initially when I downloaded it Adobe came back with an error but the 2nd attempt (open in a new window) worked fine.

Not 100% about the 5D since I don't own one but the exif sn matches on my T2i & 30D.

I agree that the exif should show your sn.
Maybe the first digit is a zero and it is omitted from your exif? Again, I cant check your exif data, but That would make sense. It would be a camera manufactured in 2005.
Checking the pdf above sn are 10 digits while you are reporting one with only 9.

I believe you can disregard the first digit of the serial number in the exif data. On the 7D's bottom it shows 09XXXXXXXXXX, but the exif data shows 9XXXXXXXXX. The 5D starts on the bottom at 2XXXXXXXXXX, but shows up in the exif as 42XXXXXXXXXXX.

My sister, the professional baker and cake decorator once told me that my camera takes great pics. My reply was that I thought her oven baked great cakes.

The serial # should have 10 digits and a Flickr user named RotaryOne was until recently using a Canon 5Dc with the serial # 0420203453 http://www.flickr.com …otaryone/7753661796/meta/ (external link)

...weird don't you think?
