7D mkII. What do you think the specs and price will be?

I guess since people are talking about the 7D line cancellation, I'm going to go ahead and guess a price of $0 for the 7DII!

^^ somehow, I just don't feel like that's going to happen. It's been too good of a seller and too much has been said about it and I really don't think that the 70D is going to measure up to the 7D in build or frame rates. I'm thinking an even newer sensor with a bit more geared towards the photographer rather than the videographer. 1.3 crop 24 mp would be great but that would negate some ef-s lenses probably and would also increase the price compared to the 1.6 crop pretty dramatically I'd think. JMHO though.

I agree with you, I was kind of poking fun at the other thread where the 7D line is all but cancelled.

However, I don't think it's going to be 1.3 crop sensor. I feel that the 1.3 crop is all but dead, we'll never see it again...

The one thing that I think might help push some people into buying the hypothetical 7DII would be AF down to f/8 on one or more focus points. The 5DIII supports it now, and I think the combo of a crop sensor and 400mm f/5.6 with a 1.4x TC, or better yet, a 400mm f/4 with 2x TC, would make a lot of budget-sensitive birders happy. Of course, Canon would have to actually make a 400mm f/4 again...doesn't need to be DO.

I know I'd be all over it. I wouldn't have to yearn for the 500mm or 600mm f/4 super-teles that I could never practically afford, and I could still get some extended reach to attempt shots otherwise not attainable.

While I'm at it whining about the 400mm f/4 or lack thereof, why is there no 600mm f/5.6 lens in Canon's line-up?

There is one.
It's the 200-400mm f/4L with integrated 1.4x extender. Dirt cheap at $12k.

Maybe they could "s(h)ave" $1-2k from the price by making it a fixed 400mm lens.

Hmph, yeah, I suppose that is it, effectively. The 400mm f/5.6 isn't anywhere near half the price of the 100-400, more like about 80%, so a 400mm f/4 (with built-in 1.4x TC?) would be not a huge discount from the price of the 200-400.

I guess the longer teles will just have to remain out of my reach (pun not intended) for a good while longer.

Why, well the 70D has just closed the gap from 60D to 7D so, Canon have to make the 7D appeal to a new market. It has to appeal to people who want a 'prosumer camera' ( sorry I hate that term but cant think what I want to call it) and people who want to upgrade from the original 7D to the Mk2.
Unless there is a considerable reason for me to upgrade I won't. I don't understand this minimum improvements just because they can get away with it mentality.

I've been wondering that as well....maybe mirrorless with an EVF, capable of 12 fps and A/F to f/8....all in a body size similiar to the current 7D?

If this really is the "sports/birding" crop camera body, to me those kinds of things would make sense on a 7DII.

I've been whining forever that I wanted a 7DII with better ISO performance. Well...I recently picked up a used 6D to complement my 7D for those indoor and landscape uses, and am still completely happy with my 7D for all other motorsports needs. This combo works great for me, and enabled me to sell a couple fast pieces of glass to pay for it, that I had only becuase of the ISO limitations of the 7D.

So- for me, and I'm guessing a lot of other happy 7D users, they're going to have to offer us a real reason to upgrade, and for a price that makes sense. By the time a 7DII comes out, you're probably going to be able to pick up a used/refurbished 7D & 6D together for $2,000. I believe this combo would make a lot of "prosumers" pause before pulling the trigger on a $2k 7DII, unless it really did knock our socks off.

And...looking at your lenses, the only one that you might want to switch out would be the 15-85mm for a 24-105L, which I was able to do for very little price difference.

Even better, I sold my Sigma UWA and found a good deal on a 17-40L for my UWA duties on the 6D...which will also work well for times when I need a general walkaround to accompany my telephoto lens on the 7D.

A lot of people told me to just get a 5DIII, but with a 7D I'm already happy with, and the fact I could add one for basically nothing with the sale of a few lenses, I couldn't pass up the 6D, and am very happy with it.
