So we all have to buy a $6000 camera to have clean high iso capability? Really?

It's actually worth it, if you ask me. I really don't think I'll ever need another camera after using it. But let's say you want to replace it eventually: $6,000 and you don't need another camera for 10 years? Sounds like a great deal to me. AND the 1D series holds it's resale value well compared to the other bodies.

The 1D X has answered your call. I own one and shoot at 6400 routinely and it looks perfect. Very low noise. Even 12800 ISO looks amazing and I'm not afraid to use that either. I stop using the high ISOs at 25600 and 51200 if I can avoid it, but 25600 does clean up nicely.

If it was a paying profession for me and I could afford it I would, but alas that isn't going to happen.

Really? Just a quick peek in our for sale forum has a 1D-II for $525, a 1D-III for $925 1D-IV for $2400. Not really holding it's value I would say.

I think I said a good copy, not one scratched up or banged up like the ones that go through heavy professional use. (actually, I just looked and I didn't say that, but that's a qualifier to get a good resale value on used equipment) The 1D-IV sold for $4,500 new when it was out. Good used copies are still selling for $3,000 to $4,000, and it's been between 2 to 4 years since it was out.

I would live a 1DX. Logically speaking, it's not a bad deal at all. Back when I was shooting film, I would go through about 10 rolls of film a month just on hobby stuff.....not including photo jobs. That was about 360 shots per month. Film + proper processing at a real lab (not Kmart) and a set of 3.5x5 prints was about $20 per roll. (I bought bulk film and rolled my own or this would be even higher). So I spent $200 per month on processing. My Eos 3 and power booster (with the incredible eye-control AF!) wasn't cheap anyways, but I had $2400 per year in processing costs just for fun and family. So in 2-3 years a 1DX is a value buy!

But of course, now my life is prioritized differently. There's different expenses to pay. Didn't have a $300 family AT&T wireless bill to pay every month, or cable, or 50M internet, and the gadgets I just HAVE to have now have exploded. lol

I guess that's all good stuff, but fluff as far as I'm concerned. I have to shoot at 3200 - 6400 often at softball games. If they could somehow make 6400 look like 1600 and some better focusing, I'm all in. I guess I don't ask for enough do I??

I assumed that VAST technological changes on the 7DII are a given since anything less than that will be a HUGE disappointment after waiting a whole 5 years to update the camera.

All the "fluff" I mention is stuff we've come to expect and have made the process of transferring, tagging and sharing photos quite easy and pleasant.

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

I honestly see this camera being put just under the 5dmkIII price point.

I agree. It would be stupid to do otherwise

I think it's going to be around 2,000 - 2,500 at most. The 70D was a pretty big leap from the 60D for only about $100.00 increase in price. If it does come out and the price it too close to the 5D III then people will be tempted to buy the 5D IIII assuming they don't need the crop factor reach. JMHO though.

The 5Dmk II released at $2699 in 2009 and in 2013 the mkIII was $3499 - about a 25% increase. Using that Canon math would make it roughly $2200.

The 7D released at $1699 I think in 2009. Adjusted for inflation that's about $1884.

So I'd wager good money that it will be between $1900 and $2200.

Unless there's something that's a real game-changer of course. For example, if ISO improved by a full 2 stops in RAW, or if they found a way to preserve highlights and shadows significantly in RAW, then it could be a couple hundred bucks more.

Canon is not in a vacuum though. They have to contend with the likes of the D7100 (D7200 rumored to be around the corner) and the Sony bodies. THey are pretty feature rich and if the 7DII comes out at double the price of the competition, that's got to hurt sales.

Well, we know they aren't in a vacuum.........but Canon sometimes seems to think otherwise.
