If the 7DII is the 1DIV replacement, Canon will likely do this:
  • 7DII, $2500 = 1DIV replacement
  • next Rebel, $1700 = 7D replacement
:mrgreen::mrgreen:

Maybe they will call it the 70D, or maybe the 7.5D

one thing I left out was dual card slots. I think this will be a must have on the 7DII and a glaring omission from the original.

I'd prefer dual CF over an SD/CF combo, but I'll take whatever Canon gives me. :)

I'm almost certain that only the top of the line 1D bodies will have dual CF slots.
All other bodies will either have:
Dual slots 1CF + 1SD
or
single SD slot.

Think new Canon lenses are overpriced? Lots (and lots) of data will set you free!

I would love to have GPS built-in to the camera. When shooting wildlife in places like Africa it can be very useful to know exactly where a shot was taken.

GPS is great and I'm especially excited about wifi.
This should be standard equipment with Canon dSLRs going forward.

While its all only a guessing conversation at this stage I think the 60d will be updated to 7d + specs and canon may release a pro crop body at some stage. This will likely have a similar af module as the 5d3 with less points due size of sensor, proper weatherproofing and circa 10fps. Sensor improvement and low light capabilities to be addressed, gps wifi 2 cards. I wouldn't be surprised if the flash was removed and a price close to the 5d3.

2 stop high ISO improvement

With 24mp how do you propose a 2 stop improvement on ISO peformance? ;)

It would be great though!

I predict another camera aimed at video, rather than still photography, and an overly thick AA filter to make it work...

Z...

New process. Going from 0.5mm to 180nm should help quite a bit.

It's notable that even the sensor of the 1DX didn't yield that kind of improvement over the previous generation sensor. Additionally, such an improvement would put the high ISO performance of the 7D2 in the same ballpark as the current 1DX. There is absolutely no way Canon is going to create a 1.6x crop camera that can beat the 5D3, much less compete against its flagship offering, on that front.

People said that about the 6D (replace 1.6 crop with entry level). The 6D is about a stop better than the 5DIII in terms of ISO performance from what I've seen.

2 stops for noise is a bit optimistic, I think...the way things are going these day I'll say 1 stop, 10 fps, dual Digic 5+...likely wifi/GPS

I expect that the 7D II will be less groundbreaking than many in this forum believe. I think we can look at the 6D as a lesson for what the 7D II is likely to bring...

Megapixel - up slightly to 19-20MP
High ISO - a half stop better
FPS - same as now
Autofocus - unchanged... there is no easy way to adapt the full frame 5D3/1Dx system... wouldn't fit
Body - possibly a little more 5D III like in the build of the body and grip
Bells & Whistles - GPS and Wifi ... same as 6D
Price - around $2K

The 7D has been a great body and they don't need to do a lot here to keep that going. The 6D had marginal improvement over the 5D2, just a little more polished package.

Haven't seen that... link? Personally, I think that is nonsense, in real life shooting. That would have the 6D getting the better of the 1DX.

This post should be in rumors. It's all speculation at the moment. ;)
