Well here's 3 pics that my father took over 25 years ago. All pics were scanned from b&w contact sheets. So thats why 1 is kinda crappy after i resized it. Not sure why so much as the second vw pic is the exact same size before scan.

Excuse the crayon markings. Im thinking it was from where he wanted the original pic cropped.

Does anyone know how i can minimize the noise in the first and last pics?

Your dad was a relatively young man when he died. Sorry that you lost him so soon.

You could try sharpening and noise reduction in Photo Shop.

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

Yes, too young and to suddenly.

Im not sure if i touched the second pic up differently or not. But they are both 1"x1.5" on the contact sheet. I tried noise reduction and tried different settings, 0% all the way to 300%. How much sharpening should I do?

They are noisy due to the resizing. Why did they scan so small? I did old negatives from 44 yers ago and they came out at 3x5".

I would try re-scanning and set your scanner to make them a bit larger.

well they are small cause they are on a sheet with about 20 other images. And thats about the size for them all.

It's wonderful that you have photo's that he took himself to keep in your memories! The 2nd shot he has taken is beautiful and natural, i really like it :)
Im sorry to hear he passed away in 2005, and i think it's nice how you have made a little tribute here for him :)

I started shooting in 1955 at age 10 and my father died in 1957--not many pictures of him and those we do have are treasures. The quality does not matter as much as the memories attached to the images--keep shooting!!

If I was you, I would keep the noise and just remove the starches and marks etc. Once all of these have been removed the photos will look so much better. I know it nice to have clean photos these days with little noise, but it's the noise that is apart of the photo as the subject itself.

What do you mean starches? I tried to clone out the marks but didn't really do a good job.

My heartfelt condolences. From the pictures it looks like you were close to him. That is truly something worth cherishing. Rest assured your father is in a better place now no matter how hard the loss must have been.

peacman, that was me at 18 months. He had an eye for photography. He had numerous pics printed up. Just wish i knew where he had kept all the negatives and slides so i can scan and post up into a gallery online.
