windows 8 is actually pretty good - just install Pokki and be done with. My core i7 laptop actually renders PS CS5 faster in won 8 than 7 though some of the plugins are a little slow to load (i would blame the SW not MS).

I have been using win 7 and 8 in parallel for the last 2 months and I actually prefer windows 8 more.

Only wish would be SP1 in which MS gives the user to disable metro at least as an option. I see no real use of metro UI in a non touch screen device. (for real noobs maybe its wonderful - my 5 year old niece finds the metro UI amusing though).

I tried pokki and I am not a fan of the fact that it is basically a shell for them to provide an app store. SO far (After 30 minutes of playing) classic shell seems to be the best at recreating the old start menu feel. You can pick from Windowss 2000/98 style, XP or Vista/7 style. Most of the right clicks work as you'd expect. If you do the top right corner hover you can still get the side menu to pop up from Win 8 giving you access to the Win 8 start page and search.

I am pissed you have to hack your OS to get it to behave like a multitasking system should, but since new PCs are shipping with this, it is nice to have a workaround. .

I admit I hated window8 at first but I have been running it for a little while and its not bad. I think a touch screen is needed instead of a mouse. It just seems slower with a mouse to navigate. Multitasking does suck on it since you have to switch one to another to another unlike the old way with just click. But the OS runs much smoother with less resources.
I'm still on the fence about it and prefer windows7 over windows 8 but I do not have a touch screen and that could change how I feel about it.

Seems they need to change the UI on win8. I am going to stick with win 7. What the point of changing?

Not much. But a lot of people buying new computers and laptops are going to get 8 whether they want it or not. Like my parents and their new high end PC, I am trying to help them figure out how to make it work. They were pretty good with XP. I sent them a link to classic shell.
