i'm picking up a IPS screen and looking at the acer B243PWL Kbmdrz. It states that it has a DisplayPort but my Lenovo t530 has a MiniDP. I'm guessing that I will need an adapter cable?

Lenovo says that I will get better res. with the MiniDP than the VGI. But is there an advantage of VGI over MiniDP? What will allow me to get the best res. possible?

Every bit of info will help :D
EDIT: If any of you suggest a new screen, I would like to stay with a 24 inch and 1920x1200. Bigger is ok if it doesn't exceed $350.

thanks,

I've never heard of VGI. Do you mean VGA? VGA is used when you don't have anything better available. There's no reason to use it if you have DP on both ends of the link, even though you'll need an adapter. You could also get a cable that's MiniDP on one end and DP on the other like this: http://www.monoprice.com …&p_id=6008&seq=1&format=2 (external link)

To get the best resolution you can go either DVI or Display port since both of the signal are digital. The pictures will come in more clear. VGA is still analog and limits your resolution.

Here's a link to order your adapter

VGA is analog, but will not limit your resolution or quality.
I've run 2048x1536 over a VGA connection.
I currently run two 24inch Dell 2412s over VGA and DVI, both are calibrated and the only way I can figure out which is which is to look at the connection on the back of the monitor.

You are limited to how many VGA connections you have have, where as DVI and Displayport your only limited by the abilities of the graphics card.
Displayport is able to carry more data, meaning if you have a 10bit card and a 10bit monitor, then when running 10bit software you may get better image quality.
To be honest, I can't tell the difference having seen a 10bit set up next to an 8bit one.

The MonoPrice cables (link above) are very good. There's no reason to buy the much more expensive Amazon cable. I used the Mini Display Port to DP cable with my last video card and it worked very well. I recommend them highly.
