Hey guys, I wanted to try my hand at cinematic video so need a good dslr slider. Will only be used with DSLR's and not heavy cameras (basically only used with my current dslr bodies).

Can you guys please guide me in the right direction as there are TONS of sliders on the internet and I have no idea which one I should get.

Basically looking for wedding videography work.. something which allows me to take smooth slider shots both vertically and horizontally. Would also prefer it if I can tilt the camera while sliding as well for more creativity.

slider length wise.. something around 1 metre should be fine... basically nothing HUGE but nothing small either.

And has to be durable / smooth sliding since it might be used for paid gigs in future.

Maximum budget?.. i'd say $1K give or two a couple of hundred dollars.

Thanks for the responses in advance!

You say you want to try your hand at video. Before you get into the complexity of adding a slider you need a good video tripod which will wipe out your budget straight away.

Sliders are very nice but are often over done. Their use should be subtle and, while nice to have, you don't need a slider. You do need a good tripod and even more so if you are going to put a slider on it.

i think john is right in that one of your first investments should be in a good tripod.

that said, the kessler pocket dolly basic is around 1 meter, and is stellar. i have the traveler size with crank, but i wouldn't bother with the crank models. i compare it to the indislider and a DIY igus slider i owned years ago, and the kessler has, by far, the smoothest travel of them all. starting at around $500, it leaves some room in your budget for a small head, like the manfrotto 701hdv, to put on top of it.

^ cheers thanks.. I already have a decent tripod with a bunch of light stands which I can use with the slider.

I was also wondering.. how good is the konova slider?.. a lot of people seem to be saying good stuff about them and it costs way less than a kressler for example..

Konova Sliders are really popular, but I don't know too much about them. I use a Glidetrack HD 1m (39in) and it works great for me. It has pretty smooth bearings even with the heaviest equipment sliding on it. I also use the manfrotto 501 hdv fluid head with it to allow more than just sliding while it glides across.
