A Fast Lens? - The 17-40

Never shared this back in February last year, after the accident. What basically happened was I dropped the lens out of my open backpack onto the ground. The lens was only 1 week old. Didn't think it was physically possible for ones' jaw to hit the floor.

I'm just glad only the filter was broken.

Not that I'd try, but I wonder how a non-L lens would fare after such an accident.

In October I dropped my 70-200L IS and it bounced a couple of times on a concrete floor. After filling the air with blue language for a few minutes, I put it back on the camera. The zoom ring binds a little when it approaches 200mm and there are 2 small, fan-shaped fractures on the front element.

Funny thing is, you'd never know it was damaged in anyway by looking at a photo taken with it.

I bet you double check the zipper on your bag everytime now, huh? Lesson learned and you still have your 17-40 to enjoy

Hehe, well it wasn't as bad as imagined. Yeah, bag was unzipped, but I was at the cricket, with the bag open on my lap.. With bad balancing, it just slid sideways, I grabbed the strab.. "Phew"... And out rolls the 17-40... I had such a fright, and it was a packed stadium (I was front row against the fence), so I picked up the broken glass mess, and put it in my bag, and felt sick all night. The filter was cracked and shattered all across. I actually thought it was the lens, and was texting my friends. "Damn, broke my lens..".. "Just happened to be the most expensive one I got too "

Sigh of relief though when I got home and opened the bag again.
