hiya first and foremost i would like to say what a great forum this is.i have been hovering around for a few weeks after having just bought a canon 1100d.cheep and cheerful..my question is i'm going to get a Macro Reverse Adapter Ring to try my hand at close ups but need to know what size to get.my lens says 58mm so would that be the size or the smaller one for the lens to screw into?.sorry if this seems such a stupid question but, being so new i'd rather ask than buy the wrong things.

many thanks
tony

You will get an EF-mount reversing ring of the same size as your lens' filter threads. You haven't said which lens you have, so I can't answer with certainty, but as there are very few lenses made in the 58mm focal length and more than a few with 58mm filter threads, I think you're on the money. :-)

For the record, I used a reversing ring with an old Nikon 50mm 1.8 AI-S manual lens for years before we bought the Canon 100mm macro. Reversing rings are a cheap way to get the job done. Good luck!

if you get the 58mm reversing ring your 18-55IS will fit (reversed). however be careful, those rings can get stuck to the camera mount !
A better deal for cheap macro shooting may be extension tubes
