As part of a yearly charity fund raising event part of the airport is closed off for a full day of motorsport. Unfortunately as of now, that's the only form of "circuit" motorsport we can get. No circuit in Malta yet (politicians have other ideas).
This year they brought over Lewis Hamilton and the 2011 McLaren as the main attraction. He's an awesome character! This was probably the last time he drove a McLaren too and he seemed pretty emotional after his last run.
I had press accreditation but unfortunately due to the mentality of the general public it didn't mean much at times. All it did was get abuse hurled at me because I was privileged or whatever they said. I wonder if this is something you experience regularly at motorsport events like I do over here?
Anyway, here goes. This was my first time covering an event of this magnitude where you have to push and shove to get something. It wasn't fun being elbowed, but I'm reasonably happy with the results given the circumstances.
