Hey guys, I appreciate all the info! I ended up buying the T4i with 18-135 STM. I figured, that the 350 jump in price, wasn't quite worth it for me, for the sake of a larger body, weather sealed, top LCD, etc. I think that the T4i will be good for what I need, and will be easy for my wife to use also. Video was a factor, and although the autofocus has mixed reviews, I will give it a shot, and if need be, just use manual focus. It still gives me the ability to use off camera wireless flash, etc, and actually have a video camera is stellar. Maybe I can sell the Rebel XT for a few hundred dollars.

Thanks for all the valuable information, helped me make an informed decision!!

I've never had a problem focusing with my 60D and I love it. It takes pretty good video too. I upgraded from an XT as well, which felt like a little toy after the 60D. Get yourself the battery grip and it feels even better.

In that case would you choose a T4i over a 7D as a better choice for photography? The 7D is older than the 60D. Or a 5D markII? There is more to camera functionality than the latest electronics. Several of the new features in the T4i are just toys. The better controls, size, 1/3:stop ISO, and better viewfinder, among other things, makes the 60D more usable and flexible for general photography than any of the rebels.

I wouldn't get a 5d2 at this point, would get 60d if I was to go ff. The 7d is in a class by itself with the dual digic processors and AF system, but if I were to go that route, I would wait for its replacement.

For me the choice between the 60d and t4i at this point in time, is a matter of style and ergonomics. There is no doubt the 60d offers finer control of the camera, but equal or less iq than the t4i. But to me the decision is not cut and dry as I've bought the t4i. The two main "advantages" of the 60d, shutter speed and viewfinder are down on my priority list, vs the advantages of the t4i.

Both a great cameras and it comes down to personal preferences.

Good luck with the new camera. I'm also thinking about the 18 to 135.

When the 18-135 STM first came out, it was only available from Canon Direct for $549.00. Availability has improved significantly and prices have started coming down. It is now available from B&H for $499.95: http://www.bhphotovideo.com …&O=productlist&sku=894152 (external link)

Doesn't really qualify as a 'steal' at this price point but it is good to see the price coming down!

Considering the price of the 18-135 STM, getting that plus the t4i body for 799 is a good deal in my book. I've had a lot of use out of the XT, hopefully the new unit will help me explore photography a little more and make the odd video. Can't wait for it to show up! Thanks again guys!

Congratulations! I agree that $799 for this combo is a VERY good deal! Just watch. Prices will soon go back up and you'll be glad that you bought when you did!

When is the new cam due to arrive?

Very good deal I think as well. Bought from BB, left Vancouver this morning. So maybe two days up the Yukon. They still have them in stock...

I think B&H has the t4i with 18-55 for $599.

To the OP,
Its good you made your choice. There wasnt a bad choice to be made. You did what you felt was right and that is what matters.

Enjoy your new camera.
