ChumpCar Championship at Road Atlanta 2012

I had a good time out shooting the ChumpCar series at Road Atlanta this weekend. It is my home track, and it was fun shooting a new series. Met dinanm3atl, even if only for a second, thanks for the assist this weekend, met a couple other shooters out there too, Jeff and Perry.

I have not fully sorted through the 1750 images, these were just a few that I tagged in the field with the new firmware on the 7D. It had been a while since I shot RA in December, it is not very good for backgrounds this time of year...

#1 This has to be one of my favorite vehicles of the weekend...just not something you expect or ever see really.

And one last one, a dusk shot, trying to capture the led light strings many of the teams put on their cars...

All you have to do is find a way to get in good with either the track, the organizer of the event or both. Or know someone who can don one of those things.

Thanks! I used 6 different lenses during the day, on one of two bodies, a 50D for the 400mm and the 7D for everything else...10-22, 24-70L, 85 1.8, 28-300L, 70-200 2.8L MKI and the 400 5.6L. The ones posted here were all with the last 4, nothing with the first two...have not gotten to those yet...EXIF is intact for all of them, and I will end up putting more up on my site...just have not had time to sort them all yet.

Awesome!! I'll check out the site when I have more time! Looks like I can get some ideas on where to go shoot around the area. Still a newbie when it comes to Georgia!

Yes, I did.. seems like not alot of posting going on there..lol

I like the angle in #3, how do you access that part of the circuit? Last time I was at RA I couldn't get over there.

That is Turn 3, and that side of the track is not accessible to spectators, you have to have media access/credentials and you hike up there from Turn 1. It is one of my favorite places to shoot RA.

Thanks! That is as mentioned one of my favorite locations to shoot from. In sprint format racing, the cars hit that gator a lot harder, and generally earn some frequent flyer miles there.
