Anyone have any dealings with iHigh.com? I believe it is owned by Sports Illustrated and one of the high schools I have dealings with has asked me to contribute. I don't believe this is a selling site, but more of news, photos, and videos. I am thinking about submitting some of my work to them for some of the teams I've shot for.

Hey Convergent. Not sure who owns it, but you just need to be careful when publishing the gallery's. Here in Indiana iHigh and VIPE are in bed together. iHigh is just an outlet. All content is supplied by whoever the particular school gives permission to upload. VIPE on the other hand is a publication, and images will be published in that magazine as well as being published on the iHigh website. As far as I know, iHigh does not pay for photography. VIPE of course will, and does use freelance photographers from time to time, but around here their editor will shoot most games.

I do contribute to several of our local High School iHigh pages, but will water mark all of them with my web page address. Just use it to help the school (drive some traffic to their page as there is some revenue sharing going on) and to help drive some traffic to my web page.

Here is a sample of one of my gallery's.

Hope that helps.

On EDIT:
One more thing, have the school give you administration rights to the site, that way you are able to tag all other schools, even if you're not setup as a contributor to the other school.

Thanks, that's EXACTLY the info I was looking for. I will dig into this a little more before jumping in. I am fairly new to this area and haven't started to branch out and get my name out there, so it was my thought that this might allow it. I will definitely look into being able to tag things to both schools. I was wondering about that, with the contributor status being tied to the school that invited me. I am wondering now if the guy that caught me in the parking lot and asked me to join is a VIPE guy. He's not from our school, and appeared to be pretty committed to this thing. Seemed odd, but this makes sense.

You weren't kidding when you said you watermarked them! I don't usually go with them that big, but I get why you are doing it. I've seen my watermarked images on kids' Facebook pages. :) I mitigate that now by posting all the pictures from my kids' games on my own Facebook page and let them access them. I'm not trying to make money from them really... tried that in the past and didn't like the relationship that developed with the other parents on the teams.

Glad helps. I'd guess the guy in the parking lot is not a VIPE guy, but the person who is responsible for the school's iHigh page. That is typically the AD around here, but all of the coaches also have access and can give rights to others. That would be my guess. VIPE really just partners with iHigh and are just a contributor to the iHigh page. And I'll add that I've been contacted by the regional editor a year or so ago asking if I'd contribute more around the Indy area. I said sure, what is your game rate? Yep, you guessed it zero. In reality iHigh is just another www.highschoolsports.net (external link) page, but for the time being they'll let you add water marks, unlike highschoolsports.net which will not.

Good luck, and keep me posted will ya?
