Want a laptop that I can do LR4 and some PS Elements. Tired of sitting in the spare bedroom working on the laptop

Appreciate your thoughts and recommendations - want to stay at or under $1000

+1. You can get a Dell with same processor, but larger hdd and better graphics, at Costco for $750.

Looked at costco website - only 1080 display is a lenovo at $1100
Want 17", i7 6-8g ram, full hd 1080 monitor...

Ya...Lenovo doesn't do 17" anymore...

I would go HP or Toshiba before DELL... easily avoid Dell.

i've not had good luck with Dell, Sony lasts almost forever.

I thought the 17 from Sony would be cool. Compusa has an ASUS that is 15.6 1080 and a little beefier than the sony at $999 but I think it may be on sale at $899
I had a compaq laptop a few years back and was probably the worst I have ever owned...HP better?
Sony and Lenovo have been quality.

I have quite the opposite experience with Sony 15" laptop (about $600 + tax) that I bought for my sister. The backlight stops lighting up after 2 years of extremely light use. My sister only uses the laptop once a month. Sometimes she does not touch it for several months in a row.

Sony wants to charge $300 to fix (LOL.. I have to be out of my mind to agree with them). I opened up the display and found burnt out soldered joint on one side of the CCFL backlight. Had to reorder a replacement CCFL (because I broke it during my attempt to fix it). No more Sony for me.

You might even want to check ebay for some deals.

I would not reco ebay for PCs. Many will be considered grey market and you will not get the proper warranty coverage you would expect. moreover, it is hard to control the level of product out of ebay, is is refurb, is it open box, etc. The seller may believe it to be level one product, but who knows who sold it to the seller.

I would only entertain if the cost of the unit was so cheap, that warranty and support became a non-issue.

Dell has lots of deals on right now. Get a Latitude, a bit more expensive but extremely good. Ive had Latitudes as primary computers for 8 years now and not a single issue aside from tired batteries.

Current one is a M6400 series. Gets 12 hours on its extended + accessory battery. Wicked fast with an SSD.
