The tripod mount is out of the question since I use my tripod a lot as well.

I'm just not sure if I want it hanging in the front or like a sling, and I assume this one could work both ways?
I don't use the tripod mount. Instead, I attach one side of the strap to my Arca Swiss plate. OpTech makes a decent product, but I have found that the edges of the neoprene shoulder pad tend to fray easily.
You'll need to ask yourself some basic questions. The answers to those questions will tell you what type of strap you should look at.
1. What type of lens do you normally carry on your camera? Weight, length?
2. How long do you carry the camera before using it, putting it down or resting?
3. Do you tend to carry your camera across the chest, on a shoulder or around your neck?
4. What material do you prefer? Leather, neoprene (spongy), canvas/cloth?
