Hello all, I thought it'd be fun to start a thread for working dogs. This would include military and law enforcement K9's, Search And Rescue dogs, herding dogs, service animals, etc.

I'll start off with a couple pictures I took today.

First off is Layko, a Belgian Malinois police K9, dual certified in narcotics and patrol:

Searching for a "high find" narcotics detection.

Next is Nero, a Dutch Shepherd, currently in patrol/ narcotics training:

And last is Leah, a German Shepherd who is being dual certified in patrol and explosives detection:

Thanks Rick, you're correct. Nero is very intense, and was on his way to a training scenario. It's all a handler can do to keep these dogs borderline obedient when they are going to the first few training scenarios of the day. All of these dogs are very high drive, and it's kind of like a racehorse that wants to explode out of the gate.

That look he's giving his handler is common. The handler is the source of everything that is good in the world...food, toys, etc. Before a handler can start working a dog or even doing basic obedience, there is a bonding phase. These dogs are incredibly devoted to their handlers. Nero's expression is watching Mike's every move to see when that toy is going to get tossed.

Lovely shots guys and beautiful dogs...I used to have a GS the looked very much like Leah...Oh the memories...Love that last shot of her where all four of her paws are off of the ground at the same time while she is walking, great catch!

Thanks Mark. Leah is a sweet girl. She belongs to our lead agitator where we train our service dogs. She is his pride and joy, and has an excellent temperment and high drives. Funny enough, I didn't realize how well I'd timed the last shot until well after I got home and was going through them. That's when I noticed that the shadow of her four feet didn't match up with the legs. It was pure luck.

RYC-RKT, great photos of the Collie at work! I was hoping we'd see some herding pictures in this thread, and I wasn't dissapointed. Let's keep them coming. :D

Shelties not Collies though they look the same they are on avg. only 15 to 30 lbs. I get collies, little lassies aussies. I have four and in these photo's its the first attempt at herding and they did well. They managed to herd all 45 across 15 acres into a pin. If you look close at the last photo you will notice he only has 3 legs and he led the way out doing his two sisters and brother.

Ah, I wondered if I was going to get it wrong and I did. I almost said Shelties, because of the size of the goats compared to the dog. But I went with Collie instead. Always trust your first instinct. Great dog either way around.

Here is my partner, K9 Ari. He's a 1/2 GSD, 1/2 Malinois, and is dual-certified as a patrol/ narcotics detection dog. I rarely get photos of him, since I'm usually working him. Today we had some play time in the snow on the way home from vacation:

Love this thread! I work closely with two certified K9 trainers, they train in narcotics/personal protection/etc.

Thanks! I wish I was on the other side of her when I shot this but I wanted to have the sun back lighting it. Maybe I can get her to use her other arm next time so I can catch the actual bite lol.
