100% crop from 1.8 vs. my Nikkor 50mm 1.8G also at 1.8. This was the best I could get out of it after AF fine tuning. It was only sharp inside ~7 feet.

if you can get a good copy, this lens is insane. I love my 50. Used it on a 60D in the summer at a wedding, never took it off, and people were Blown away with the quality of the pics.

After owning the Sigma version and going through the send it in then send it in again fiasco with Sigma, I wouldn't touch a 50mm lens from them again. Wouldn't $250 sound even better for a defective lens?

I have had good luck with other Sigmas btw in the past, most notably the 70-200 EX DG HSM II Macro. But with the headache I went through with the 50mm, it left a huge distaste and distrust from anything produced by the Sigma Corp.

Oh for oinks sake.

Just the base AF microadjustment would have to be at 27 backwards or so, even 20 doesn't get close.

This might actually be worse than the AF sound from the Canon

Never getting a Sig 50 again. The focus shift was horrible on 3 copies! One was back focusing, the other was front focusing and the third one was just...soft at f/ 1.4-1.8. No amount of calibration could fix these.

I have had great luck with Sigma. I had a fantastic copy of the Sigma 30 with the same bad reputation that I sold when I got a 5D. I have since sold the 5D and repurchased the sigma 30 again and this copy is just as good. I have had seven Sigma lenses and the only less then stellar one I have had was the non macro 24-70 f2.8 that was soft at 2.8 but focus was fine. I am prepared to take my chances and if I have to send it to sigma no big deal.
