Just had Brian, Leslie and Max come over for a quick photoshoot, so they could get some pics for their Christmas cards. I have been wanting to try the light in the box shot and actually pulled it off (somewhat anyway)....thanks for the help from the guys on the forum who gave me some input on the setup. Anybody who has any ideas to improve this, feel free to post away....I am always looking for new ideas and CC. Thanks for looking!

Actually the set-up was very simple. I used an alien B800 with a 24X36 softbox set all the way down as fill light and then just put a 430EXll in the box facing downward and wirelessly triggered. I lined the bottom of the box with white styrofoam so it would spread the light. I think I had the flash @ 1/16 power and shot at F 4 and ISO400. I think I should have used more fill light from the softbox to reduce the "horror lighting" effect but overall I liked the result for a first time trial. Thanks for looking!

Its a great shot but i have this idea of adding another 2 gridded rim lights one left and one right at the rear to provide a bit of dimension to the image. Maybe even gell them

Great idea!! I might have to try that. I have an idea about my kids looking into the box, kinda facing each other. I'm excited to try that now!

I got the same advice from David in the Studio Lighting section on this forum and I think it would have made the shot better as well. I was pressed for time and didn't think this thing through enough I guess...my lack of experience with rim lights also played a part in my decision to just go with the one softbox and the box light. Next year I will do this again and will have it down much better! Thanks for the input guys and gals..
