How long would the 6Ds series refresh cycle be?

Hi,

I was thinking that since the 6D is a single digit model like 7D and 5Ds, it is safe to predict that its refresh cycle would be about four years? Having said that, its safe to invest in this 6D knowing that there wont be a replacement for at least 3 years? Unlike the rebels.

I apologize if you see the same thread in DPR forum.

We still don't know what the refresh cycle is for the 7D, and you're asking for the refresh cycle of a camera that has barely even started hitting the streets?

If you want a safer investment than the 6D, you can purchase the 5Diii now. By the time they refresh both cameras, you'll see some of the 5Diii features trickle down to the 6Dii (but who knows if it'll actually be better than the 5Diii). If you were to buy the 6D now and the 6Dii later, you'll spend more in total than if you just buy the 5Diii today.

Wow. People are way too obsessive about the next model.

Just wait until the 6DIII models have been out for about 1 year. At that point, you should be able to get a good condition 6D Classic for about $500.

The camera JUST came out and already questions about when it will be updated?? Really? LOL
In all seriousness, it won't be refreshed for a couple of years minimum, 4 yrs maximum. Why lose out on years of shooting worrying about the next new thing? There will ALWAYS be something newer and shinier ;)

The 6D was a really great camera in its time ... I still look at mine today and admire it for all the amazing pictures and memories that it has captured for me during the 8 day lifespan of this incredible model.

I think we need a "Remembering the 6D" thread.

I can't comment anymore, I have to go now.

You lost me at "invest". A DSLR is a horrible investment. They are mostly a computer in camera's clothing and will greatly depreciate over their life cycle. You should never, ever, invest in a DSLR body. Buy a DLSR to use to take pictures and you are getting use for what you spent.

As for how long before a Mark II or whatever version will come out, its anyone's guess and only Canon would know. Between now and then the new street price will likely come down quite a bit, as it has done with most other DSLRs, given the 6D has been widely available for only several weeks. And it may go up or down in used value after a Mark II comes out, depending on what price point and features it comes out at.

So buy it if you want it to take pictures, not as an investment. And just like if you buy a computer, don't look back for a while after you buy it. Only buy it if you would still be happy with it if the new price dropped by $500 next week.

Who knows? This could be the only 6D model ever. Worrying about the next model is like worrying about the end of the world. You can't stop it, so get out and enjoy the one you have!

I'm sorry but i really don't understand why you would buy a camera based on when it will be replaced.

Its like saying you don't want to buy this car, even though you love the way it looks and drives because in two years Mercedes said the newer one will come out.

If the camera fits your budget and has all the bells and whistles your looking for then buy it. Forget about when the new comes out. We are here today...
