I guess it depends on where you are? I am in a country town so advertising for me is a breeze, not many photographer's out here, a few flyers and posters up and my advertising is done!
If your in a city though i guess it's a bit different. Maybe try targetting certain area's depending on what sort of photography you shoot???
Of course i was looking for mainly portraits/family/weddings in my advertising so i target those types of places...
Completely different though if your looking for something else?

Thanks PIXI.... but yeah, I am in a very competitive market... NY/NJ is a very hard place as there are a lot of great photographers, and a lot of not great photographers, but none-the-less we are all competing for the same market share. I am always looking for a creative way to make my marketing a little different.... I know I will never pull business away from the really great photographers in my region, however, I would like to get just a little more from the ones who are either a little less ethical, professional, or have no clue what they are doing but advertise and get business anyway (I have had clients come to me after some of these shoots.... not that I am the best, but not the worst either). I even recommend photographers other than myself if I know an assignment or event is beyond the scope of what I am capable of. How's that for being ethical?
