I am brand new to the Forum and have a couple questions. I have an EOS ELAN7E with two lenses: EF 28-90 4-5.6 and EF 75-300 4-5.6 III USM.
I am considering the purchase of a 20D and would like to know if my lenses would be satisfactory (with the 20D for right now) or would I be better off to sell the entire rig and and get new lenses?

I purchased the Rebel XT a few months ago and the lens that I had with my EOS Rebel G film camera were the 28-80mm and 70-300 f/4-5.6 II USM. They both work well with the Rebel XT. I have since upgraded a bit as you can see from my sig below.

Welcome to the forums,
With the 20D all Canon EOS EF lenses will work, they will work the same and give the same quality on the 20D as they do on a film camera. The only difference is with Canon digitals is some people prefer slightly sharper images and you need to set your camera to do this or do it in post processing. The other difference is the FOV you will get with those lenses as the 20D has a 1.6 crop factor. So a 75-300mm lens will give you a field of view of 120-480mm and so on for all your lenses.

Cheers Wayne :D

Your lenses will work fine, but I think that once you see what your 28-90 actually produces up close, you will want a new lens. The 28-90 is widely considered to be a terrible lens (it is rated the worst Canon zoom lens on the FM Reviews), so it might be worthwhile to get the kit lens with the 20D, as the kit, while cheap, still produces some pretty decent photos. Then step up where you need it later.

Thanks for the comments....they are all helpful and make my decisions much easier. Think I will go with the kit lense and also get the 85/1.8 or 50 /1.4 to start. Will keep the EF 75-300 USM to use untill ready to step up to a "quality" zoom. This forum, by the way, is great! Super information and friendly advice.

I went from my Rebel G to EOS 3 to 10D and 20D. I got the lens kit with my 20D yesterday, 18-55mm and that lens is very minimal compared to the 85 1.8 and 50 1.4, I have both. I put the 18-55 on it first to see how it fit, held the camera, didn't like it immediately. I put my 85 1.8 on it and felt power in my hands. WOW. I've got my 50 1.4 on it now and got portraits last night of my family. The pictures are truly better with the prime lens. I needed the wide angle with the 18-55, but probably won't use it. I have a Tamron 19-35 and that's better.

Otherwise, welcome to the FORUM and have a lot of fun. Don't forget to buy a POTN strap for your new camera. I bought one and it's great. Makes carrying my 20D that much more fun.
