Dinosaur Jr wrapped up their tour w/ a massive celebration/career overview (but don't pile dirt on them yet...they've put out three solid to excellent LPs since reforming in 2006). This show would feature their 2nd, and in my opinion, best, record You're Living All Over Me, and would have a bunch of their musical friends and collaborators join in at various points during the show. This occurred mostly during the songs after YLAOM, but Suzanne Thorpe from Mercury Rev started the show playing flute on "Thumb," and Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth sang along on the 1st cut of the record, "Little Fury Things."
I was set with an all access pass, but for some reason there was a glitch w/ the main security guy who said i wasn't on his "list" even though I had the pass. i didn't have time to sort it before Dino started, and then spent a while tracking down the tour manager in the production office and then even longer having him find that particular guy again...in the meantime, i did sneak back into the pit a couple of times, when Al Cisneros and Kurt Vile joined in for "Alone," and when Johnny Marr and Kevin Drew played on "The Wagon." I finally got it all sorted with just a few songs left in the set. kinda frustrating, but then again these things happen.
whew, that was a long intro. onto the photos... fairly non-existent front lighting and strong backlighting, plus tons of on-stage monitors made it a bit of a challenge. i also finally got to meet Joe (aka Cosmokid) for the 1st time. good times!
#1 J Mascis in his Marshall cave

#4 Frank Black of Pixies joins Lou Barlow (they did a great version of "Tame")
#5 Cisneros and Vile join the fun
#6 Marr on The Wagon
#7 John Petkovic (Death of Samantha/Cobra Verde/Sweetapple), Fred Armisen (SNL/Portlandia) and Tommy Stinson (The Replacements/Guns 'n' Roses) join J for a great version of The Stooges' "TV Eye"
#8 and my favorite photo of the evening...Kim Gordon absolutely CRUSHED it on "Don't" and towards the end of the song she sauntered over and gave me the mic.
what a fantastic evening, so glad I came down for it.
there's a bunch more shots on my site...paring down to 8 was rather difficult.
