Yesterday the shutter button on my 50D started acting eratic. Sometimes it works fine then it will take anywhere from 1-4 seconds to trip the shutter after the button is pushed. When using the shutter button on the Canon battery grip it works fine. The photos come out OK no matter which button is used. Tried different camera setting, batteries, CF cards, etc. Nothing makes the camera button work correctly.

I have never had to send in a camera for service so my question is where is the best place to send it?

Thanks

Try this
http://usa.canon.com …eos_50d#ServiceAndSupport (external link)

Or do a google search for your area.

Does the camera shutter button work ok if the grip is not attached to the camera?

Sounds like the typical XXD sticky shutter button problem, usually caused by grot and snot getting between the button and contacts.
There's quite a few threads on here about it.
Just do a forum search and you should find some threads that discuss it and even offer some fairly simple fixes.

I had this happen to me back when I had a 30D. I actually took the camera apart and resoldered the contacts on the shutter switch. That is not exactly an undertaking for the faint of heart though. I always recommend sending cameras to the original manufacturer for service, but there are a number of third party options if you don't want to go through Canon.

I had this problem with a 50d. I tried the "alcohol fix:

but it didn't work for me, so I sent it to Canon, cost something like $250 to have the button replaced, as I recall.
