Are HMC or Multicoated filters that much better? Also what is considered wide angle for buying filters? I am trying to buy a CP filter for my tamron 17-35, which uses a 77mm filter. How are Kenko filters?

Yes you want multi coated. And you shouldn't need the slim type at 17mm ... at least my 17-40L didn't when I tried it out. But I did buy the slim type anyway cause of possibly of getting a wide angle zoom in the future.
