85 1.2 won't be fast enough for sports... That is alot of glass and USM doesn't move it fast enough for sports, even the MKII. I shoot all sports with IS turned off.

i shoot over the glass at mid ice or the other teams defensive end at the face off circle. i use the lens hood for protection from sticks and the ocaissional puck. its gaffer taped for extra security (from getting knocked off) but, yes. as dogdstr223 asked, whats wrong with using a lens hood?
