Hello guys and gals,

I'm trying to video record my automotive "how-to" for youtube and some how I can never have those crisp HD video's that you see on youtube.

I have a Canon 5D Mark ii with the len's set up EF 50mm 1.4 and EF 20mm 2.8 wide lens. I use Sony Vegas Pro 12 for my video editing program. I'm shooting on 1920x1080 30fps on my camera, and when I'm editing my video, my setting is HD 1080-60i (1920x1080, 29.970 fps).

Is that the proper set up or am I doing something wrong? please help! thank-you!

also here's a video using 5d ii on EF 20mm 2.8 lens, please tell me if that's as clear as it can get.

Looks OK to me, though perhaps some better lighting underneath the car as some operations were in darkness.

Better lighting? Or maybe your referring to the "film look" that 24 fps gives you?

I'm with Ken on that. Different shots are better than others and I think much of your problem is lighting related.

There are some unpleasant graduation effects appearing on my lap top and I was wondering if you rendered it out at 720 and uploaded it if this would work better than going for 1080.

I'm not sure the issue is necessarily YouTube related though. It may just be the extremes in light levels you are asking the camera to deal with perhaps.

On a production issue, you might want to consider adding the instructions as a voice over. That way you can script them and avoid some of the "ums" and "ars". You can then also talk over the action which might make more efficient use of the time.

thanks for the reply guys, I think I found the answer to the HD upload. I just searched up on youtube "how to create HD Video" and found my problem. But for sure I need better lighting since its still dark. I upload the video by rendering it as "Internet 1080 HD" on my Sony Vegas, is that the proper way? let me know. thanks!

I think your video is already sharp and clean. The lighting is still dark, but who cares? It's not a movie, it's a tutorial for people, so in this case it's already more than enough. The most important thing is your video's content.

Uploading HD video will limit your audience especially for people from places with slow internet connection. You might need to consider them too.

I get the sharpest HD on YouTube when I upload the file in AVCHD format, much better than the "Internet 1080 HD." Here's my latest using the AVCHD uploaded on YouTube:

Shooting in low lighting situation, though, can quickly reduce the IQ....
