My new 20D just came off the UPS truck at 1:00 today! I was so excited, except, I bearly opened the box and had to leave for lunch with my son and then take him shopping for clothes, then go to the middle school to teach math, then to run errands. I've finally returned and my 20D is as beautiful as I dreamed!

And it does have that new camera smell. ;) :)

I put the lens kit lens on it 18-55, and it felt so sad. So, I unwrapped my 85 1.8 from it's plastic cover and put it on my new camera and it felt right. The first picture was of my best friend, Lisbeth, who didn't realize she was being thrust into history (of my new 20D). It was wonderful. The fact that it turns without waiting is worth the price. Oh, I can't wait to take it out for a spin.
:D:lol:

So, my question is "Do all photographers keep the boxes, plastic, etc. of every piece of equipment purchased?" I've been trying to.

Congrats on your new purchase - I know you'll love it!

Strange as it may sound, but in the future you'll want to have all that stuff when you decide to sell your 20D to get the latest-and-greatest Canon Mark 7 Hyper Phase 3 Super Whizbang camera...

Just stuff it all back in the box and put it on the shelf...

I just got my sh*t together and now I can't pick it up...

Congrats on the new camera -- there's nothing quite like taking it out of the box and taking that first shot.

Yes I too save EVERYTHING that came in the box. I put it all back in the box along with my receipt then put it on a shelf in my closet. That way everything is together when I get ready to sell it.

Happy 20D day - I got mine today also!
I am totally retentive over packaging - I still have all the cardboard and polystyrene my elan came in ten years ago ( this very month). I even have the bubble wrap pouches and cellophane packets the lenses came in.
In the UK we have a £100 rebate on the 20D ( till the end of this month) and I have to cut the bar code out of the box - and it feels like desecration. But that is one quarter of my next lens, so it's out with the knife..
So yeah, I totally understand.
On the practical side, it does increase resale value on ebay!

This is me in my entryway enjoying those first few shots. I didn't do much with the color since the hall is a bright yellow (I love it). It's so much fun. :D

Oh gosh...I remember when I opened up that big ol' box, and there it was...the precious. The look..the smell..the taste..

ok, no taste, but boy...it was nice.

I picked it up, and this warm, nice feeling came over me.

I think I peed my pants

I have an alternate point of view. I toss all the packaging as soon as I'm sure it all works. My house isn't big enough to keep junk like that around. I also don't keep the boxes for TVs, computers, printers, furniture, our new water heater, our new washing machine, or anything else. Life is too short to keep that kind of clutter. Also when you buy a used lens and it says "excellent+" or "like new-" do you really care that it says "comes with box and, wait, the original plastic!", or do you just look at the price.

Actually, I have every box I ever got with photo gear.

I also have the box to my TV (57", mind you), my i9900, my laptop, my desktop, my DVD player, my cell phones, my mp3 player, my monitor, my psp, my gamecube, and my 360.

They're all piled in the TV box, which is upside down. :-D

LOL. Thanks for celebrating with me. I have been feeling so weird about being happy that I am getting something so wonderful. My blood pressure went up to 144/90 this week waiting for it. And now I've misplaced my POTN strap that I received yesterday! I had it around my neck all day yesteray without a camera attached and now I have the camera and the strap is missing. Oh, I forgot. I do keep every plastic, cardboard, product box I've gotten with my camera equipment. My brother was really fussy about such things and I've gotten that way too. For some reason, it makes me feel better. Also, I carry my manuals with me until I can't remember where I put them down, look for them for about a week, find them, carry them with me again (there is always a chance I will actually stop and read the things), until I put them down and lose them and . . . .

Congratulations! Wow!!! I did notice one problem though with your 1st photo, the Canon letters are backwards!!!:) :) :)

Just joking for sure.

I'm about as excited as you are and I've had mine for 5 months! Wow, does time fly or what?

Yes, save everything. Put it all back in the box it came in and store away. It will come in handy that day when you trade it in on another but I'm sure you aren't thinking that will ever happen!!!

Have fun and post a lot of pictures from your new camera!!!
