Hi Guys,
I'm new to the forum. You have probably already covered this topic. I am working in London as a press photographer still using the 1D. I was considering buying the MK II N. Any opinions on it. ? I have briefly tested it, and liked it. When is the second batch due out?

I haven't used the newer "N" version, but the 1D Mk II is an excellent camera. It will run circles around your 1D in terms of high-ISO performance, and will give you more pixels to work with as well. Don't know about a second batch, but I suspect that Canon is producing and shipping them regularly so if you can't find one now, it should be available soon.

I went from a 10D to the N and I'm loving life.
I shoot basketball and was missing way too many shots with the 10D.
The ball would be on the floor or in front of the players face when the shutter
went into action. Now I get those same shots but everything in between.

Okay sounds like my life. I moved up from a 20D to the IIn. It's been a great experience. I'm shooting basketball (6th grade girls) and am having a ball. Check out my web site for samples.

I love the high fps rate. It focuses faster too.

You really think the camera helped that much? Reason I ask is that I am going to be shooting 5th grade boys, and I would like some ammo for my wife to justify the purchase;)

Thanks,

Rick

Rick,

I get LOTS more keepers with the IIn. It's focus is more accurate and much faster. Now most of my "trashed" images are sharply in focus. I just have hands, bodies and refs in the way now. If you figure out how to keep the refs out of the way let me know.

Actually most refs have been pretty helpful when taking images under the basket.

I've watched 5th grade boys play (and I've shot a couple when a nephew was playing). Boys are definitely harder to work with. They are faster, see the court better, and make harder passes. I have no doubt that you'll see a dramatic difference stepping up to the IIn.
