I have been doing sports photography for a long time, and just came across a new situation with Shutterfly that I have been unable to figure out exactly. I have an account with Exposure Manager for any images that I am primarily looking to post in a gallery and sell. For my kids' teams, I have moved away from that and just post them in Facebook, since that is where they really want them and I'm not specifically looking to sell to my kids' teammate's parents (been there, done that, didn't like the outcome).
My daughter just started the club volleyball season, and her team mom setup a team site on Shutterfly. I've never seen this before. She's using it primarily to make her job easier... has the calendar of practices/training/tournaments on there, and assignments for meals, and anything else for organization. The site has a gallery too... big shocker there. She is encouraging us to upload images of the team there. I've got mixed feelings about it because I know that these 15-17 year old girls could care less about Shutterfly, and really just want them on Facebook so they can tag them, comment on them, and show them to friends. I can very easily publish my images to Facebook from Lightroom with zero effort. But this Shutterfly thing got me thinking that if I put them there (team mom's idea, not mine), I might end up making a few bucks. If I'm going to put them somewhere inconvenient for me, I'd be more apt to do it if I'm getting something in return.
Has anyone used this system before?
