I decided to take the plunge, and the magical brown truck will be dropping off a shiny new 5D Mark III between 11:15 and 3:15pm today :D I've gotten into concert photography a lot recently and while my 50D was good in most situations, it really struggled in some others. ISO3200 would be a last resort in real low light situations and often the shots would be hit or miss. I found myself cursing at the AF system at times too. Plus I've pretty much explored the limits of the 50D in nearly every imaginable situation, so I'm hoping the 5D3 will give me that creative refresh I've been seeking, especially with a video mode now.

Sadly I won't be able to start using it until after work today around 5:30 , but feel free to keep me entertained until then :p

You are in for a surprise. ISO 3200 is a cake walk for the 5D3 and the AF is nothing short of amazing.

Nice! Congratulations on the new acquisition.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

you'll love the 5d3 I love mine too...since you shoot lots of concert just remember to light up those little black focus point when you loose track of them...search on google for the many workarounds...

I was waiting for the same delivery a few weeks back... and get how you feel. I also just got rid of a 50D, which is a fine camera. I think you'll find that ISO 25600 on the 5D3 is a tad better than 3200 on the 50D, depending on conditions. What lenses do you have? I would think the change is going to shake up your kit quite a bit. I've turned over all my lenses except one with the move to the 5D3.

I'll be waiting on the Fedex truck on Monday for my "new to me" 300 2.8, so looking forward to seeing "In Transit" switch to "Out for Delivery".

Life's little pleasures. Enjoy learning the 5D3.

I have a 17-40, 10-22, 85 1.8, and 70-200 f/4L IS. I've sold the 10-22 and will ship it out tomorrow, and will probably use the 17-40 as my walkaround lens now. FOV will change a little with the 85 and 70-200 but it shouldn't affect what I shoot too much. At least nothing a little cropping can't fix. I may consider picking up a 24-105 sometime too.

I rented a 300 f/2.8L IS in the summer, incredible lens.

Wish I could afford the MKIII. I have the 5D MKII being dropped off tomorrow. I know it's older technology but prices have dropped and this one is affordable for me. I already have one MKII and just got rid of the 50D I used for back-up. So I am still stepping up here and I'm happy!

Hey, don't feel bad about that... the 5D2 is a fine camera. No matter where you are in the spectrum, there is always something you wish you could afford. I wish I could have swung getting a 1DX, but couldn't do it.

The 1DX is what I wanted to wait for but figured that was something that may never happen. I'll see what happens four years from now. Trying to keep up with the technology is enough to keep us all forever broke! Still have a few lenses on my wish list...

Murphys laws state the more important the package being delivered the longer it will take for them to deliver it. Never fails LOL.
