For starters, this sub-forum is a great resource for both seasoned pros as well as the newbs who are looking to get into wedding photography. There is a wealth of knowledge and know-how among the contributing members.
That being said, we all go about the business in different ways and have different approaches. I thought it'd be interesting to see how we all typically approach a wedding.

I usually have a dedicated assistant with me to help carry stuff, guard my gear, set up speedlites on light stands, hold modifiers, etc. He refuses to be my second shooter though

Often than not, I roll by myself. Other times, I have an assistant to help carry lights. On a few weddings I have a second shooter.

Depends what the client wants to pay for. I explain the advantages of each situation. If they want to pay for a second shooter, assistant, etc, it is up to them. But I am more than comfortable covering an entire wedding by myself.

My wife and I are a Team. We love it and have a blast doing it together. We trained a 2nd shooter that is going to help out. Life is sweet.

If the clients pay for one photographer, it's just me. If they pay for two, there's two of us. If they pay for three, there's three of us.

Either of my adult twin sons (for whom the business is named; my name is not actually Robert Wayne) will accompany me as an assistant. They don't shoot, but they have enough experience to be helpful with off-camera lighting.

I can't imagine doing it without them. I take a lot of gear to each wedding and just having them around to help transport and protect it is worth what I pay them. Even simple things like parking the truck so I can run right in at the church or rustling up a couple of chairs for us at the reception is a mighty big help.

That and I simply enjoy having them around.

Second photographers are an option that I offer my clients, but I work as a single ~80% of the time.

i always attempt to convince my couples to go for a 2nd shooter, in which case it's us two plus a lighting assistant, otherwise it's just me and said assistant.
