I dropped my 50mm Lf1.2 yesterday in a parking lot. Minimal cosmetic damage....hardly noticeable.
However, I'm concerned about the "internals" of the lens.
Should I send it to Canon to be checked? It's about 3 years or so old.
How much can I expect a once over to cost?

While I'm sending it, I think I may send my 24-100 which had the red ring fall off. Do they charge to replace that? I know it's only cosmetic, but it probably affects the value of the lens if I ever decide to sell it.

In general, I'm wondering if it may be advisable, anyways, to send lenses to Canon to be checked once in a while after years of use?

Unless you're a pro who needs his gear to be always working then I wouldn't send it in unless it's absolutely not working.

The red ring on the 24-105L is a hefty replacement cost... Something over $100 I believe... Is it worth that to you?

Sorry to hear about the 50L... I would just take sample shots and see if everything looks and operates OK, if so, I would not worry about it. If something is off though, I would for sure send it in.

If it works, keep shooting it. If you have problems, send it in. If I sent gear in everytime it got dropped I'd have to used a sketchpad and a crayon, all the gear would be with Canon (bit of an exaggeration).......

Kind of what I was thinking... :D

OP, if you decide to send your lenses in, it might be worth it for you to see if you qualify for CPS membership. I believe that would entitle you to a repair discount. Just a thought.
