Quick question from an outsider: there's obviously a high and a low season for weddings. So is it just first come, first served for those key dates, or are you prices adjusted to reflect demand?
May through October, its mostly first come, first served... there is always someone trying to negotiate, and I don't budge for those dates - someone else will come along asking for that same date so I just have to be patient... I also limit my traveling during that time - an hour's drive is about my limit - anything more, and I pass waiting for the next request which almost always comes...
Rarely, but it has happened, I refuse based on the venue.... one place that comes to mind will not accept any remote lights setup anywhere other than the DJ light bar... a different venue's manager chased me down once during the reception because he was sure my vehicle was parked with the guests, and not with the staff...
There is definitely an offseason here, and I do get very flexible on pricing & distance & venue when it comes to that... I don't advertise lower pricing, but I use it if I think it will help get a new date!
Just last night, I received an email for a January 2014 date... and one of the first questions she asked is if I offered any sort of discount for off-season... I didn't reply with a definite number, but did say I could work something out after getting more info (she hadn't said anything about where, etc..)
During the busy season, I'll have maybe 5 free Saturdays...
during the off-season, I'll probably have 5 weddings total...
