This was taken two weeks ago in Mission Bay, San Diego. It has the black bill of a Snowy, but the wrong color legs, they are yellow not black. Plus it is too large to be a snowy egret.

Great shots of a Snowy Egret.

Snowy = black beak / yellow feet
Great = yellow beak / black feet

My book shows the Snowy with black legs, yellow toes and a black bill.
Great Egret has a yellow bill with black legs and toes. What am I missing?

The legs of a snowy can be mixed black/yellow. I have some shots where the fronts of the legs are black, the backs are yellow. But, the feet are yellow.

My book shows a mottled brown coloration for a immature Little Blue Heron, but it is about that size and there were Little Blue Herons around. Here is my shot of a snowy egret.
