Quick Release Compatibility

I shot my first wedding last night and it went fairly well, but it could have gone much better if it didn't take so long to switch between different equipment.

So here's what I'm looking for. I need a quick release plate system that I can bolt on to the top of my glidecam, and will use plates compatible with the Monfrotto video monopod (561). I also need to purchase a separate head for use with the Glidetrack slider, but I'd like for this separate head to also utilize plates that are interchangable between the monopod and whatever quick plate system I can find for the Glidecam.

Any ideas? I've found this, but I'm not sure if it would really be compatible with the monopod or another monfrotto head:

you'll want an adapter that's compatible with 501PL quick release plates, like the one linked here:

the lightweight manfrotto 701hdv is perfect for slider use, and uses the same QR plates as your 561 monopod. in fact, the head on your monopod is just a modified 701hdv with the pan functionality removed.

i have the 561 and 701hdv as well, and this is pretty much the same standardized QR setup i use across all my stabilizing gear.

You could use the one above, or you could use the Manfrotto 323 RC2 on top of your existing QR plates.

That's what we use with all our equipment. That way no matter what head, shoulder rig, monopod/tripod, jib, or slider we use all we have to do is clip out and clip in to the other. Yes there's added expense, but any time I buy something new I just pick up the quick release at the same time. It's also easier than sliding off the other QR, especially on the glidecam where you have to get it perfect in order to balance it.

Just my $.02

I really dislike Manfrotto plates. They're huge, heavy and they twist. Normally, I install an Arca Swiss style quick release clamp to all my plates. My cameras all have Really Right Stuff, Kirk or similar quick release plates on them which mate to the clamps. They are smaller, clamp tight and work great for installing them across multiple devices. I have a clamp that lives on the Glidecam, clamps on each fluid head and the slider. My slider, however, has a Manfrotto plate on the bottom so that there's less connections in between to give a more solid platform.

agreed. but i will say they are a fairly standard platform to build on, and the least expensive way to standardize your quick release plates/adapters... given you're using any manfrotto stuff, of course. i like arca swiss as a standard as well. i'm giving some of the rigs by edelkrone a whirl these days, but i've had a redrock/rrs baseplate at the core of my rig for a few years that i thought was excellent.

I use the Manfrotto PL14 plate on all of my equipment interfaces as it is the ideal size for the bottom of a DSLR, lens foot, mono pod head, even GoPro mounts. Unfortunately you can't simply screw the 577 shoe onto a sliding tripod plate as the quick release locking lever fouls on the tripod head.

This being the case I had to make up a spacer plate.

As no such plate is available I have made arrangements to manufacture plates for sale.

Regrettably the competence of the first manufacturer has put this on hold but I am exploring other options. If you are interested in buying a plate please let me know and I will sort an intermediate solution in the short term.
