I have a set of Interfit 200's and Minolta IVF meter and when I take a reading it tells me to use f16. I have the meter set for 125th and iso 100 non corded, so I then set my 5D MK II on M and shutter to 125th and f16 the pics are extremely dark. I have only used these lights a couple of times many months ago with my Sony A700 and didn't have any problems. Am I not setting the 5D correctly?

Extremely dark? Could you post an example photo so people could judge and help give you a better idea what's going on?

How are you doing your metering, and what is your light setup?

They very underexposed. I just tried it with my Sony and they are only off a little.

Not much info here but my bet is that the ETTL preflash is triggering your strobes before the shutter is open. How are you firing the strobes?

Did you use the same meter when you used the lights successfully with the Sony? Can you confirm that the flash is currently firing with the 5d (not the meter reading shot, but the dark pic shot). Don't have a filter on your lens by any chance do you?

How are you triggering the strobes? Sounds like they could be firing out of sync with the shutter.
Where are you taking your meter reading from?
A few more details might help.

Could be. More often than not I see the shutter in the images if things are out of sync, but if things are way out of sync this could be the issue.

Most of the time when things are out of sync it's a sign that the triggers need new batteries. Since the OP hasn't used the strobes in a few months it deffinately worth checking the batteries nonetheless.

I have to respectively disagree with your statement. First off we do not even know how the OP is triggering the strobes. If they have their 580ex on top of the camera and in eTTL mode and the strobes using optical triggers, the camera is going to miss the entire flash. So until we have some answers, how about not discounting anyone's suggestions.

Here is the pic, but when I downloaded it to my picasa the raw file was fine but the jpg looks like the pic as well as on my camera lcd. Very strange. It's the first pic, I don't know why those other pics are there, photobucket change since the last time I used it.

And how are you firing them?

If using receivers are the batteries charged?

Do you have a filter on your lens?

How are you metering?

Kind of a funny but related story. I once helped a guy having the same problem. As it turns out he was he was metering the shot correctly and and all of his equipment was functioning. Problem was he was using an on-axis umbrella to light the shot and was standing between the umbrella and model while shooting:).

Probably not you problem, but related and funny.
