I've done a ton of ring shots for weddings before and I've always turned off my AF on my macro lens. Noticed I needed to manually focus "into" the diamond, so it really becomes clear and sparkly. Nice ring though, coulda bought some NICE lens with that money! :P :P Gear List (5D3, 70-200 f2.8L IS II, Sigma 85mm f1.4, Sigma 35mm f1.4, 50 f1.8, 24-105L, Alien Bee lights, etc etc)
