Images from my 1st Wedding

Okay I posted Friday night that I was having my first wedding shoot on Saturday. Really not my style of photography as I mostly do Sports and Racing photography. Anyways here are some of my fav images from Saturday.

I know that these are not nearly as good as most I see here on the forum, but the bride has seen the formals and she was really happy with them so I think thats all that matters right?

Hey Brandon--I'd say these are not bad at all for a first wedding. The formals look fairly well lit--which puts them above most first wedding formal shots.

I'll be easy, but give these suggestions:
1-it could be the mirror, but I sense movement blur on the bride due to low shutter speed. I could be completely wrong about this.
2-you know the crop of a formal shot is too tight when the subject's head is literally hitting the 'ceiling' of the photo.
4-I don't see the reason to crop off centre like this for a formal shot. It appears you were cropping out an obstruction (person) that may have been on the right side of the frame when shooting.
5-very tight, cutting of the bride's head.
6-nice
7-nice. the conversion might have left this a little low contrast (up the orange + yellow channel in the conversion usually works out well).

Love the black and whites! 7 is killer for me.

Great Job and wonderfully captured. clean, clear and crisp images. The only thing about the formals are the shadows cast on the brides neck. a little more tweeking on your strobe (camera right) would have made them perfect.

Very nice for your first wedding. I agree with some of the observations Christopher posted earlier and I'll add an obvious one that I feel should be addressed, especially so early in your wedding photogrpahy.

The highlights on the wedding dress on 2, 3 & 4 are blown way out. There's no detail in the wedding dress. Now, I know that some of you youngins like the blown out look because it makes the image feel soft and "dream-like". However, the bride spends lots of money and countless hours selecting and fitting her wedding dress. I've always felt that it is a dis-service to your paying bride to not include every detail in that dress in every photo. Bring down the highlights in the dress and show as much detail as possible. You'll be surprised how much of a difference it makes.

Now, every one in a while, it's OK to blow out the highlights for an artsy photograph. For instance, I think it works in #3 since you're only capturing the bottom third of the dress and it gives the photo a very nice feel.

Congratulations and I think # 7 is the best of the bunch, with # 3 close behind.

First let me say hello to a fellow Nebraskan. Now let me say I do like the photo's and admire anyone who shoots weddings either fulltime or on the side. I've been invited to a few and asked about doing a couple upcoming and always find a way out.

The only nitpick I have in any of these would be 2 and 4, the blue channel appears out of whack on my monitor. It just really stands out for me with the white dress in those photo's. Still very nice photos regardless and have a Merry Christmas.
