My friend took this pic today at school, and used just a tad bit too much flash. Him and I have been each editing it in our own different ways, but no matter what we do we can't seem to figure out how to fix the blown out face and forhead. Using photoshop CS, any tips?

The original;

This is what I have come up with so far just messing around;

Color replacement tool? Artful painting using the heal brush? You're lucky since there's really not much detail lost since there wasn't much detail in those spots to begin with. It's "simply" a matter or replacing the color and then doing some burning or shading to get realistic shadowing across the face.

But it's a decent amount of work.

Make sure you edit the face on a seperate layer from the background. Play with the levels a bit but make sure to use the RGB curves. Feather the selection a tiny bit of the face selection from the background, that way you won't get any hard edges.

nothing great but... try these tips - use a couple of blank new layers with some samples of the neck skin applied to the hot areas - adjust the opacity and try to match the overall skin color. my version was 2 layers with a cople of neck skin clones with the opacity adjusted and reduced to under 100K :cry: .

original top mine bottom:

On my Laptop her skin looks a bit blachy now, may be the cloning or may just be my screen not too sure. You shoudnt have to clone skin, but if you do make sure to really feather it .. maybe even blur it and also change the opacity. You should recover a bit of detail with exposure settings if it was done in raw. If not color adjusts will also help.

I like the original best so far. Drop me an email with the RAW if you like, see my website for the address (view my profile, go to the home page, it's on there).
