For those who don't know, Futsal is a style of indoor soccer played on a basketball court. It's 5v5, including goalkeepers, with a special, denser ball, special rules for keepers, and 4-second time limits to get the ball back in play after it goes out of bounds. The game is very fast and the venue has the typical lousy gym lighting. I've been experimenting, and these are a couple of shots with the 1DX and 200 f2L, shot at 1/500 and f2.

The Futsal movement seems to be growing. I've seen more and more kids involved with it each year. It's a great off-season development tool for those of us who live in northern areas and are forced indoors around November or so. The emphasis is on speed of play, quick decisions, quick feet and moves with the ball, and ball movement. Some physical play is allowed but most isn't, and this allows different ages to play together because size is less of an issue. I'm coaching a team in a league that has U11, U12, and U13 teams playing against each other.

Both of my kids play Futsol, first time I've seen on a basket ball court. We play in a dedicated warehouse set up with turf. Nice shots. I'll have to find some of ours.

Great action, color and tack sharp ... especially for indoor action sports. Well done!

Actually, there's a distinction between indoor soccer and futsal. My son also plays indoor soccer on a turf field. I have also seen dedicated futsal venues that are a lot nicer than playing on a basketball court, but the court works when necessary. In futsal, the ball is actually a little different...denser and heavier than the soccer ball normally used by that age group. Goalkeepers can use hands anywhere inside the 3-point arc, but they are only allowed to throw the ball - no goal kicks. They have 4 seconds to release the ball once they have it. They can throw it anywhere on the court except for inside the opposing team's 3-point arc, or it's a direct kick. There are no throw-ins. The ball must be brought to a complete stop outside the line where it goes out and kicked back into play within 4 seconds. Substitutions are done on the fly, but the player must be off the field before the substituting player enters the field, or it's a yellow card. There are other rule differences from traditional soccer, but it's close enough that it doesn't take long to learn.

Yeah, we call that indoor soccer in NY. Up until a few years ago there were no indoor turf fields, so everyone played on basketball courts, with a "indoor soccer ball" which was as you described. From there we also had some tournaments that had almost hockey rinks, where they played off the sides like hockey. Then soccer has gotten so popular around that there are indoor fields. I spent 12 months a year for 12 years doing it, my son went on to play college soccer, he graduated and has never touched a soccer ball since.

Was a lot of fun, good luck with your team.
