The wrestling team went 3 and 0 in this quad. First time to use the new lens at high school wrestling. The lens is great. Both shots taken @ ISO 800, 1/200 and 2.0. Comments and adjustments welcome. Just tell me what you did.

I am also starting Wrestling and loved the shots. I will be paying attention when the more experenced guys start commenting. a Couple of questions though:

1) I am assumeing no Flash?
2) Sounds like you like the 50m f1.4 Were you down on the floor?

Love the facial exppression on #1.... You caught it at the right time.

Dave

Hawk1959,

You are correct. No flash and I was on the floor. I am the principal of one of the teams participating, so no problem being on the floor. I share the pictures with my yearbook sponsors and students for their use. I am just learning all this stuff too, but haven't enjoyed anything(camera) as much since I bought a 4 wheeler years ago.

warrior6901,

Thanks for the INfo... I get a Coaches pass also to be on the floor and I am not sure how else you could shoot this sport. I am doing my 10 year old son's Youth team (Wayne here in Huber Heights, Ohio) and It is so much fun to be on the floor with the kids/coaches. Makes the day go a lot faster then in the stands!!

My big problem is trying to catch matches of ALL the kids. With 10-12 mats running, kids from 5-13 years of age its tough. Wayne has one of the largest programs so there is just about ALWAYS a wayne match going on some where!!

I bought the 50m F1.8 (could not justifiy the extra YET for the 1.4) due to the terrible lighting and needing to frezze the actions. I was looking at the 80m but thought it might be to much lens for being right on the mat.

Thanks again and lets keep trading experences... I see 1000's of Pics coming (Thank God its Digital!!)

Dave

duped the layer and changed the layers blending from normal to screen - then changed the opacity on this new layer from 100% to 50%. Did a noise reduction filter of 3,0,0 and a smart sharpen of 300, .03, remove lens blur. Saved for web at about 88 something % to get it under 100K.

top original - bottom mine
