When you design your watermark, what size and resolution do you save it as? Also what format would you save a copy as for say Lightroom? I can't seem to get it right. My PNGs come out crappy looking on the photo ( i guess from scaling).

Sorry if this is posted somewhere else already, I was unable to find what I was looking for.

Pretty much make it as big as you are willing to store. I don't know, 3000px wide, 5000 - whatever. Or if it is the photoshop file, stick to vector graphics (smaller) and then save say a png to overlay on the image.

The final resizing that determines how big it shows is best done by your RAW converter/batch processor and while downsizing will not lose any quality, upsizing will.
To make watermarks look ocnsistent, unless you want them to differ, they should be a percentage of the image size.

That's what I thought, but it seems if I go too big then Zenfolio or Lightroom scales it down to whatever size (percentage) I want and in doing so it looks like crap. I ended up just making a new simple watermark instead of using my logo. It doesn't look quite as bad being auto scaled or whatever. But it is a little difficult to read. Penny for your thoughts?

QUOTED IMAGE

The scaling has zero effect on how it looks - unless you have excessively fine detail.
Maybe play around a bit? (in my case it is just some overlayed lettering... - and I never had an issue with it.)
