Unable to shoot tethered using 5D?

Hi Everybody,
I've spent days on this problem. No exaggeration. I really want to shoot this camera tethered. It's the best camera I have. I want to shoot tethered in the studio mostly for headshots, occasionally a model walks through the door. But I really want to be able to see whats being captured on a bigger screen.
Based on all that I've read, most people just plug the 5D in to any free usb port on their computer, start up DPP (or DSLR Remote, or Capture One, or Zoom Browser, or Light Room, etc) start up EOS utility and POW! They are able to capture live smiling model faces much to the joy of everybody in the studio.

No such luck here.
Is it possible that I've made an error in installing the very latest firmware (1.1.1), the latest EOS Utility, and the latest DPP (ver 3.12.40)?

I'm running Windows Vista 32 bit.

Should I delete every piece of Canon software and start all over?
(I don't have the original software disk since I purchased the 5D used and seller gave me wrong disk and cant find original disk.... )

I'm pretty good at following directions, so I promise to do exactly what you tell me to do....

With lightroon you dont even need any of the canon stuff, just plug in the camera and start tethering. It even works flawlessly with my 10D which is much older than the 5D.

Hmmm does DPP recognize your 5D otherwise? That is, can you download your pics using DPP fine? If not, you might have some kind of connectivity problem that would impact LR too.

The latest EOS utility doesn't reconize older models of camera. As they've been adding support for new models they drop off support of older ones. If you enter Windows Vista and choose the 5D in the Canon download site you'll get EOS utility version 2.7.3. I haven't tried it but I suspect all versions after that no longer work with the 5Dc.

I have the latest version of EOS utility with Windows 7 and nothing works on my 5D and only downloading (not tethered shooting) works on my XTi.

There was one file that I'd been hesitant to run because it hadn't been mentioned in any of the hints and tips I'd found elsewhere.
******A file called CNDNDIg.exe******
I found this file in a folder I had labeled EOS USB WIA driver.
I don't know off the top of my head what WIA stands for, but the moment I double clicked on the file, all the options in the main window of the EOS Utility lit up and I could click on the option labeled "CAMERA SETTINGS/REMOTE SHOOTING".
A little tweaking and I was able to load DPP, launch EOS Utility from the DPP menubar, and shoot tethered.

!!!!!!!! I am SO HAPPY!!!!!

This is NOT true in my case. My 60D works fine in LR4.x tethered capture. My 5D doesn't work at all. If I set the camera to PC CONNECT, LR4 does not recognize that it is connected. If I set it to Print/PTP, LR4 can see a 5D attached, but the camera just blinks "BUSY" on the top LCD and nothing works. Any ideas? I am using LR4.3 on a Windows 7 64-bit Dell machine.

5dc wont be able to Tether to a win7 64bit machine easily. You will need to be in xp mode (win7's xp virtual environment) to tether with the 5dc on a win7 64 bit machine.

^^ - thats my understanding as well. Not based on personal experience (I'm using 32 bit Win 7) but a number of threads back when win 7 first came out that exposed this problem.

I've got my 5dc to tether on a win7 64bit on xp mode and set Lightroom which is running on the the non virtual side to automatically scan the new photos that have been taken in the virtual environment. Works pretty well, a bit slow, but at least i have my 5dc tethering. Used it at a high school prom last school year without a hitch.

Thanks for the replies. I am using WIN7 Home Premium. XP mode is not available for this system. My laptop is old, running XP Professional. I'll have to try that. But that takes me back to LR3.x, doesn't it? I think LR 4.x stopped supporting XP, like it won't even install.

Edit: I just checked Adobe's LR4 website. Vista is supported. Not XP. That is really ODD!

Which version of Win7 64? Microsoft's website only lists XP Mode as available for Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate. My peasley Home Premium won't run XP Mode.

oops - thats a problem. Probably easier to buy a cheap laptop and run XP on it for tethered.

Edit = saw your post about laptop.

My wife is getting a new laptop (WIN 8) for school next semester. Will LR4 run my 5D tethered on that? Anyone have a clue? Maybe we should upgrade the OS to a premium version before we order it?

Lets keep this in perspective. I don't do a bunch of tethered stuff. Just curious.

i am in that boat now... just got a new laptop with Windows8...

my 5Dmk2 has a busted USB port so i have to use my 5D backup for a shoot tomorrow and client insists on being tethered, but i am having no luck with either EOS Utility or LR3...
