Our local Snowy Owl area is getting a bit crowded with five owls. This bird was pushed away from the feeding area by the others. Which allowed me to take some unusual ocean and Snowy shots that most people don't think of when they think about Snowy Owls.

Rough weather and a stormy sky weren't perfect shooting conditions, but they could have been worse!

Enjoy!

Its really neat where this owl species shows up during the winter. They are a tough hardy bird for sure.

Is that on Clatsop Spit? Can you give some directions on where they may be? My son would love to visit one of these weekends.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

If you check out my flickr there is a map I made of all the perches they frequent at parking lot C (the south jetty). As far as directions go, just google "south jetty columbia river". It is the "A" point on google maps.

Thanks! I've visited south jetty numerous times, just have never seen snowy owls before. Now I just have to find a dry weekend day to do the drive.. :D

Your best bet is to actually see them in rough weather, or right after a storm like today was. When it is calmer they tend to spread down the coast away from the jetty. But during rougher weather they head back to the spit to seek shelter while also being able to feed.

Ah, I see... the sacrifices one must make! Thanks for the tip.
